The LaSalle Public Library, through various grants such as the Project Next Generation Grant, Emergency Connectivity Grant, the Per Capita Grant, and other donations and collection development efforts, has acquired equipment and kits for use by the general public.
Items in the Library of Things collection may be checked out to a patron of any library, aged 14 or older, with a valid library card. The library cardholder must be in good standing (no fines, no overdue items, and no history of a delinquent account). New cardholders must establish a borrowing history of at least three checkouts without garnering any fines, and must have held their account for at least one month before checking out items from this collection.
Patrons must read all accompanying materials for each item/kit checked out and sign their name indicating they understand these terms. Patrons are responsible for the condition in which they return the items/kits. If an item is damaged while checked out to a patron, that patron is responsible for the cost of replacing the damaged item including library processing fees.
All items/kits will be checked out for two weeks and must be returned to the library by the 14th day. These items must be returned to the LaSalle Public Library in person. They may not be returned to other libraries, or placed in the drop box. A fine of $1 per day will be charged for each day the item is late. If the item is 21 days late or more, the patron will be billed for the replacement cost of the item, including library processing fees. Items returned in the drop box will result in a $10 fine added to the patron’s account. Furthermore, if an item is returned in a state requiring staff to clean it beyond regular sanitizing, the patron will be charged a $5 processing fine. Until the fine is paid, the patron will not be allowed to check out any other item/kit in the Library of Things Catalog or from the library.
All paperwork must be completed and the staff member must sign the paperwork noting who checked the item out to the patron. This paperwork will be stored at the circulation desk. Once the item is returned, staff will initial and write the return date, as well as note any issues with the returned items/kits.
